Rosyth - Zeebrugge becoming freight only
DFDS Seaways have today announced that they are to end the combined passenger and freight service on the Rosyth - Zeebrugge route. However, freight capacity will be increased on the route from early 2011 due to the replacement of the Scottish Viking with two ro-ro vessels.
DFDS have stated that passenger numbers have not been adequate to support a combined service and with no prospect of improvement they were left with no option. They do believe that the route has a future as a freight only service and wish to keep it alive.
The change to two ships on the route will mean the service will now be improved by offering 4 round trips a week, instead of 3. In turn this will increase capacity on the route.
