Norfolk Line sale to DFDS
Today the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group and DFDS have agreed that DFDS will purchase 100 percent of the shares in the logistics and ferry company Norfolkline.
A.P. Moller – Maersk Group will then purchase 31% of the newly formed “super logistics” company. DFDS will then be able to operate services using its own fleet of vehicles and ferries, from as far as Russia through to Ireland employing over 6200 employees and a huge fleet of 73 vessels.
The new deal dove tails Norfolk Line and DFDS services extremely well. There are only a few services which overlap such as ferry services on the North Sea. No doubt when the deal is finalised the new DFDS will look to cut costs accordingly.
The deal is worth approximately EUR 347 million (DKK 2,582 million). This does include the share buy back option from DFDS by A.P. Moller – Maersk Group. The deal includes all but two of Norfolk Line’s vessels which were sold outside the deal.
