The U.K. to Northern Ireland freight ferry services
Northern Ireland is located in the north-east region of Ireland and shares borders with the Republic of Ireland. The country has a population of approximately 1,685,000 people, constituting about 30% of the island's total population and about 3% of the population of the United Kingdom.
P&O Irish Sea provide customers with ferry crossings from Scotland to Northern Ireland, specifically to Larne from Cairnryan (8 times a day, 2 hours). For passengers travelling from Stranraer, Stena Line offers a service to Belfast up to 10 times a day with a 2 to 3 hour crossing.
For passengers travelling from England, Stenaline provides services from Liverpool Birkenhead to Belfast 13 times a week with an 8 hour crossing. . Onboard facilities on these ships are excellent and include cinemas, games rooms and bars.
There are also freight only services operated from Heysham by Stenaline  and Seatruck Ferries. Stenaline sail to Belfast 12 times a week with an 8 hour crossing whilst Seatruck operate twice daily sailings to Warrenpoint (8 hours) and daily sailings to Larne (9 hours). Although these freight only sailings predominately cater for unaccompanied trailers they can carry up to 12 drivers on each sailing. On board driver facilities are of an extremely high standard including single cabins, satellite television and meals cooked to order.
Larne port has a long history, dating back to the Viking landings. It was not until the 18th century when Larne port started to develop as a commercial port, from where many Irish immigrated to America on steamer services. Larne town centre is only 2 minutes away from the port; however, the on port facilities are of a high standard.
Belfast is a busy thriving city, with the largest population of any Northern Ireland city. Today the freight port of Belfast is the busiest port in Ireland, handling 2/3 of all freight into Northern Ireland. There are over 80 roll on roll off crossings per week into Belfast, and 10 lift on lift off services into Europe.
