France to the United Kingdom ferry crossings
The United Kingdom (also known as the UK) is a country and sovereign state situated off the northwestern coast of continental Europe. Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK with a land border with another sovereign state, sharing it with the Republic of Ireland. Apart from this land border, the UK is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea, the English Channel and the Irish Sea. Great Britain is linked to continental Europe by the Channel Tunnel.
There is a large range of ferry options between France and England, provided by several different ferry operators. Brittany Ferries offers several crossings to Portsmouth departing from St Malo (7 times a week, 10 hours and 45 minutes), Caen (3 times a day, 5 hours and 45 minutes) and Cherbourg (3 times a day, 3 hours). For travellers departing to Plymouth, they also provide a crossing from Roscoff (11 times a week, 5 hours and 30 minutes). Alternatively, customers can travel from Cherbourg to Poole (8 times a week, 2 hours and 15 minutes).
LD Lines provides differing routes from Le Havre to Portsmouth (daily) and Dieppe to Newhaven (twice a day) with crossing times between 4 and 7 hours.
Condor Ferries offers fast ferry crossings from St Malo to Poole (7 times a week, 5 hours), Cherbourg to Portsmouth (once a week, 5 hours and 30 minutes) and St Malo to Weymouth (7 times a week, 8 hours and 15 minutes). These crossings are predominately for passenger traffic and only carry small vehicles.
Most short sea ferry routes from France operate into the Port of Dover.
