We want you to make the most of your bookings with Freightlink. Here are some handy tips to make the most of our services and avoid unnecessary charges and delays to your journey.
At Freightlink, we offer an open ticket on certain routes. Also known as a 'turn up and board' or 'turn up and go' ticket, it is issued for a route without a specific departure time. This means that you and your vehicle will travel on the first available crossing following arrival and check-in at the port. They are usually valid for a certain period of time meaning that if you are early or late you are not restricted to a specific slot. This is great when you are uncertain of what time exactly you will be arriving at a port and want that added flexibility.
The width, height and weight of your freight vehicle are very important when booking a ferry. Vehicles that exceed the norm are classed as abnormal loads. Not only will it influence which ferry you can board, but also how the ferry is loaded to ensure the ferry leaves on time with minimal disruption. Here at Freightlink, we have a special team who can take care of your abnormal loads and get you an accurate quote specifically for your vehicle type. Just contact your account manager or our customer service team and they will take care of the rest.
We provide bookings for over 1000 routes across Europe and the UK. This means that if you are unable to get on a specific ferry due to it being full or the sailing cancelled, it is very likely that we will have an alternative route that we can get you on. Allowing you to travel with as little disruption as possible. Our multilingual customer service team are available from 06.00 to 23.00 each day to find an alternative sailing or route for you and get you where you need to go.

It is very important that if you are using a vehicle (such as a van) for commercial purposes, that you do not book on an incorrect passenger service. Trying to avoid the relevant fees for freight vehicles could be very costly and may result in you not being able to travel. It is important that you provide accurate information (such as vehicle type and length) when booking with us to ensure that we can give you the best prices and prevent any nasty surprises when you arrive at the port. Many operators have released statements concerning this matter, including Stena Line who have stated
"Vehicles designed for commercial use and greater than 6 metres in length must book as freight. Vehicles of any type carrying commercial goods on Irish Sea routes must also book as freight. In the event of an incorrect disclosure, Stena Line reserves the right to make an additional charge for VAT on the price paid."
Contact our team or your account manager if you are not sure how to book your vehicle type correctly.
