The port of Rosslare was developed in 1906 by the Great West Railway, Great Southern & Western Railway to develop steamer traffic between Great Britain and Ireland. The port now handles over 400,000 units per annum via roll on roll of services. There are approximately 2000 ship movements through the port of Rosslare annually.

The port of Rosslare had substantial investment during 2005-2007 to improve port & passenger facilities which are excellent. Freight ferry services from Rosslare go to Pembroke, Fishguard, Roscoff, Cherbourg and Le Havre covering unaccompanied cargo and driver accompanied vehicles.
