Sassnitz ferry port is on the Jasmund peninsula in the north German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpmmern. The borough of Sassnitz lies in the northeastern part of the island of Rugen and the ferry port is the easternmost deep water port in Germany. It lies on the bay of Prorer Wiek immediately on the open sea making it easy for ferries to dock. It is one of the shortest sea links from Germany to Sweden, and Stena Line operates regular ferries to Trelleborg.
