In the UK alone, a shocking 1.2 million tonnes worth of clothing goes to landfill each year. This year, we decided to do something to help change this.
And it just so happened that there was an excellent Lancashire-based charity already working hard to reduce clothing waste while also raising money for disadvantaged children living locally.
In celebration of Global Recycling Day on the 18th of March of this year, the Freightlink team took part in Cash for Kids Lancashire's Wear, Share, Care initiative.
Cash for Kids is a grant-giving charity that works with grass-roots organisations to improve the lives of disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. In 2021 alone, they supported more than half a million children.
This Spring, Cash for Kids teamed up with Textile Recycling International to launch Wear, Share, Care, a charity project with the goal of:
We were fortunate enough to be able to play a small role in this scheme.
Alongside our sister companies CustomsLink and Freightlink Reload, our teams managed to recycle over 55kg of clothing - raising money to help support local disadvantaged children and young people, while doing our part for the environment in the process.
And this is just the start.
In the coming months, our team is exploring more ways in which we can band together to support our local community of Preston, Lancashire and beyond.
It was brilliant to be a part of this project. and we look forward to participating in more fundraising campaigns with Cash for Kids in the future.
