This International Women’s Day, we’re focusing on the transport industry.
Did you know that just one-eighth of the global transport workforce are women? When we look to women in senior roles within the industry, the landscape remains even more challenging, with just 19% of leadership positions being held by women (according to the latest LinkedIn Economic Graph data 2025/2026).
But not at Freightlink.
Women make up one half of senior roles at Freightlink
Our own team represents 13 different nationalities and speaks 9 different languages, and we are proud to work alongside some of our industry’s greatest innovators.
In fact, 55% of our workforce are women. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case everywhere.
Lack of women drivers is a significant contributor to the ongoing driver shortage in Europe, and yet studies show that by hiring more women, businesses can become more efficient and innovative.
Women in Transport : what is it like to work in the transport industry?
We asked several women from across our business to share their experiences.
"Working in an industry that is fast paced, product led, competitive and is seen as male dominated sounds like it should come with challenges, but working in the freight industry is exciting, and you can see a growing diversity focus which is welcomed by all. I feel very lucky to be heading the HR function in such a diverse, varied and fast paced company within the Freight and Logistics Industry."
Robyn, Head of Human Resources
“I started this job with no idea what it meant, but I was lucky enough to learn from the best. Day in, day out, together, we provide customers with impeccable service and the best experience. I have created strong bonds, provided reliability and commitment and my work has paid off in full.”
Anca, Romania Sales Agent
“The transport industry moves quickly, so marketing campaigns often need to be adaptable and we have to be prepared to work on multiple projects at once, as well as adjust strategies based on real-time data. Having the right people around is the absolute key to success, and Freightlink provides exactly that.”
Edyta, European Marketing Executive
"As a woman with over 15 years in logistics, I’ve experienced first-hand how demanding and rewarding this industry can be. It’s fast-paced, operationally complex and built on resilience, sound judgement and teamwork. While historically male-dominated, the sector has evolved significantly. Women are now leading across operations, compliance, data and strategy — shaping the future of modern logistics. I’m proud to see that reflected in our own business, where over 50% of our team are women across all departments and levels. Diverse perspectives make us stronger, more adaptable and better equipped to support our customers. Logistics continues to open doors — and I’m proud to be part of that progress.”
Louise, Operations Director
“Work at Freightlink has been very interesting and challenging at the same time. I have learnt a lot about logistics and how planned things can change so quickly, but to not give up and try to find solutions in any situation. So at the end it is satisfying when all comes together nicely.”
Jana, Czechia/Slovakia Sales Agent
“My experience with Freightlink has been great, people here are lovely and enthusiastic, we are all appreciated and given many opportunities to grow and learn new things.”
Mariann, Data & Website Administrator
With all industries (but specifically the transport industry) facing increasing hurdles each year, implementing inclusive hiring policies is a no-brainer for businesses. While women make up just 20% of the transport industry’s global workforce, we are pleased to announce that this is changing, with countless companies actively seeking to recruit diverse talent.
