What is the HGV Levy?

UPDATE - The HGV Levy was suspended on 1st August 2020 as a response to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. It will be reintroduced on 1st August 2023 for all HGVs of 12 tons and over.

The HGV Road Levy is a time-based charge of up to £1,000 a year or £10 a day and applies to all vehicles weighing 12 tonnes or more using the UK road network.

The Levy is charged to make sure that HGV operators are paying towards the cost of building and maintaining the UK’s roads.
